De echte oefenexamensThe official DUO practice exams

DUO runs the inburgering exams, and these are their own practice versions. They look and work like the real thing, so try them well before your exam date. The links open on DUO's websites. Some have audio, so use headphones.

All A2 practice exams are also listed on inburgeren.nl, in case a link here has moved.

Woorden lerenFlashcards for everyday words

Choose a topic. Say the Dutch word out loud, try to remember what it means, then turn the card over.

Zo oefen je slimWhat helps when you practise alone

  • A little, every day

Twenty minutes a day does more than three hours on a Sunday. Five minutes of flashcards on the bus counts.

  • Use the real exam format early

Do one of the DUO practice exams in your first weeks, not just at the end. Then the format won't surprise you on the day.

  • Listen to real Dutch

The NOS news app, NPO Radio 1, a Dutch series with Dutch subtitles. Even in the background, your ear gets used to the speed.

  • Speak out loud

Read short texts aloud and record yourself. In the speaking exam you have to produce Dutch under pressure, so practise producing it, not just reading it.

  • Read what's around you

Letters from the gemeente, signs in the supermarket, the back of a cereal box. It's all reading practice, and it's the Dutch you actually need.

Kom je er alleen niet uit?Stuck on something?

On your own you can get a long way, but it's hard to hear your own mistakes. In a 1-on-1 lesson we work on exactly the part that's difficult for you. €25 an hour, online, in Dutch.
